While I came to Denée for advice on saving my money, I left our sessions with not only great budgeting and saving tips, but also renewed clarity about my life goals and a vision for my financial future. How amazing it feels to be coached and lifted up by another woman of color! I initially reached out to Denée for advice on paying down outstanding debt that never seemed to go down, no matter how much I paid off for several consecutive months. What unfolded in our coaching sessions was beyond what I even knew I wanted or needed. Trust formed almost immediately between us as I vulnerably shared where I’m at with money and debt. As Denée affirmed that circumstances like mine were common among women of color who often take care of their siblings and parents, I felt the shame and guilt melt away. Denée asked questions that helped me better identify where I felt powerless or unknowledgeable. She shared advice on what I can do in the short-term, and what I should consider doing in the long-term, to not let my money control me but the other way around. For the first time in about 10 years, I felt more in control of my financial situation, and less afraid to take actions to not just pay down debt as I initially wanted, but to also start saving and building a life of comfort for my family and me. I came to Denée for help with bettering my relationship to my money and finances and to learn some new skills and tools to help me along. One thing that has really shifted for me has been the clarity about my values, how they impact my financial decisions and the confidence to let myself be guided by my values. I came for help with time management and focus. I learned to understand my why. By reflecting on my values, I'm able to be more focused.​ I learned that I am motivated by consequences and rewards, and I can use what I learned as a strategy for staying focused. I learned that I wasn’t valuing accountability as much as I should have been. I’ve always felt like I didn’t have guidance when it came to financial decisions that I was just acting without proper direction or an end goal. I knew that saving was important and investing could lead to wealth but I did not know exactly what it was that I wanted to do with my money. I blindly started following others’ guidance but I wanted help creating a plan that would help me understand what financial success meant for me and create a plan to get there. I left feeling more confident and less anxious about finances. I felt affirmed in my financial decisions and values after working with Denée. She provided clarity, guidance and empowered me to make the right decisions for myself without judgment. I learned to trust myself more when I make decisions and to always stay true to my values in every aspect of my life and especially when it comes to finances.  

I joined Fun Finances and Foolery to gain a sense of who and where I was when it came to my finances. I wanted to know what steps I needed to take to create a budget plan, and I wanted to get a better understanding of how my credit score affected things. I, for one, was not a good saver, so I needed some direction in that area. I walked away with tools and vital information to help me on my journey to financial freedom. Not only did this journey help me get financially focused, but there were many sessions that were extremely therapeutic as well. I learned that as a person I am ambitious, capable and driven.

Some people in this world are gifted and are doing exactly what they are meant to be doing. Denée is one of those people. She truly is a bright sun shining light on peoples' transformations. 

Denée is an inspiration and a healer. She is deeply emotionally present and engaging. I immediately felt comfortable talking to her about my complex relationship with money which I have felt unable to discuss throughout my life. Denée's approach to financial coaching is dynamic and she is able to adjust her depth and skill to meet any person's unique needs. Before meeting with Denée, I often felt possessed and or dissociated when making purchases. I thought if I held my breath when swiping my card or if I just didn't look at my bank account that I wouldn't be "caught" struggling so much to feel in control of my spending and saving. I felt helpless and self loathing every time my bank reminded me that I spent more than I saved and every time my card was declined or I incurred an overdraft fee. I also felt paralyzed and overwhelmed around taking steps towards advancing in my job and in my career. 

Over the course of 9 months with Denée, I saw myself turn my life around and got to celebrate with her. Some of the things that I was able to accomplish with Denée's support and guidance included:
